The Iraq government, supported by WHO and UNICEF, have initiated an oral cholera vaccine campaign in Iraq. This coordinated effort to has helped contain and control the cholera outbreak. The 2 vaccine campaign reached over 232 000 displaced people above 1 year of age in high risk groups, in 62 camps for refugees and internally displaced persons.
In the Nsanje District of Malawi, WHO and the District Health office launched a OCV campaign that reached approximately 135,000 internally displaced persons (IDP) and people from surrounding communities. This represents 84% of the target population (134,603/160,482) received the OCV and has helped to prevent and control a potentially explosive cholera outbreak.
